The 2016 Sapper Six Memorial 5k Run & 2k Funwalk
September 23, 2017

In 2012 93 members of our local National Guard the 713th Combat Engineer Company nicknamed the Sappers based in Valparaiso, IN were deployed to Afghanistan. While deployed there where two combat incidents where 6 our soldiers were killed and one was severely wounded. This has been a grave loss for the all members of the 713th and their families more importantly for the Gold Star Families left behind.

These brave families came to the National Guard Unit and the Local Committee for the Folds of Honor and asked if we could work together to create a 5k run in memory of these brave young men that have given so much for our country. We are honored to join and support this run and create an evening of respect and joyous remembrance of our fallen but not forgotten Heroes.

We are asking the community to join with the Soldiers of the 713th as they lead this run to remember their brothers. You can run or walk as we have set up a 3k walk for those that are not runners or just cheer on the participants as we remember our fallen Heroes

The Gold Star Families and the 713th want to remember our Heroes so that their Sacrifice is never forgotten. Let’s all come out and show that the City of Valparaiso and surrounding communities of NWI care and appreciate and appreciate our brave young service people serving to protect our freedom.

This year in conjunction with the Race and Funwalk, we will also have a memorial ride to take place the morning of Sept. 23rd To view more information about about both events including online registration please visit the following pages by click on the image for each event:
